Setting the Stage

Venue “shopping” is the first major thing we’ve had to do as an engaged couple. Finding the perfect backdrop for our reception has already taken hours of researching, phone calls and emails, and budget breakdowns (it’s a good thing Maria loves Excel spreadsheets!). We’ve been amazed at how many choices and decisions we will have to make, and also that some of the venues we are considering are already booking up for next summer. The local brides are on top of things!

Earlier this week we scheduled a time to view our first venue, and it was a very pleasant experience. Although Maria was a little concerned about the size of the room, there was great outdoor space and the events coordinator we met with was fantastic. We have another venue to see next weekend and hopefully a couple more between now and then. Troy is very interested in this part of the planning process, as he is, as they say, “in the industry.” Maria is loving his assistance in finding the perfect spot for the reception.

In non-venue related news, Maria and her mom went dress shopping for the first time this past Saturday. It was a great mother-daughter experience, and Maria found one gown that she can’t get out of her mind – perhaps this will be the one? Only time (and a few trips to other bridal salons) will tell. The photographer and band have also been determined, but, until we have a date, we can’t lock anyone in. Save-the-dates and invitations are also in the works, thanks to some amazing graphic design work by the bride’s best friend, Dana Nowak, as well as the bride’s parents’ printing company.

Finally, Maria is so excited to ask her bridal party to be part of her big day, and she has a very fun way of doing so. More details to come once all the girls have been asked!

Thank you to everyone for the well-wishes! We are truly feeling so blessed to be surrounded by the love and support of our friends and family.
